Hi, I'm Kayla! My goal as a therapist is to guide my clients to learn various coping strategies to help them help themselves. I assist clients with building their toolkit to give them the necessary skills to help them better manage stress. I have experience helping children, teens and families through all different stages of life. As a part of the Insightful Paths Team, I am fully licensed in New York and able to serve any areas of NY by offering tele-health sessions. My approach to therapy is built around what works best for the client. I've worked with various ages in one-on-one or family sessions with focuses ranging from depression, anxiety, autism, ADHD, RAD (reactive attachment disorder), and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). The therapeutic interventions I use are rooted in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and art therapy. While some clients prefer art/games, others may prefer strictly talk-based interventions; while others may prefer a combination. I look forward to working together so we can reach your individual or family goals!
I commend you for taking the first step at bettering your mental health! My focus is working with teens-young adults. I specialize in relationship issues, women's issues, and life transitions. I also have experience working with anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, trauma, family conflict, internalized stress, and self-esteem. My approach is warm and empathetic, I often use humor and sarcasm (when appropriate) to help the client feel comfortable and relatable. I use an integrated intervention method mixed with cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, strengths-based perspective, compassion focused, and culturally sensitive, however, I adjust the treatment modality to best suit your needs. It is important to show up and be an active participant in therapy to work toward the changes you desire, and I look forward to helping you with that journey!
Hi! My name is Melissa Mason (she/her) and I'm a seasoned therapist with an established history of working with adolescents & young adults. I possess clinical expertise in eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma & other co-occurring disorders & I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) designed to reduce symptoms of trauma & PTSD. In addition to my clinical training I have been extensively trained in the use of yoga & mindfulness as a complimentary intervention. I recognize the strong connection between mind & body & work to help clients develop practices that enhance their overall wellness. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the belief that an effective therapist builds good relationships, built on mutual respect & trust. This sets the tone for the work & allows the client to feel safe enough to be vulnerable. I work with clients to develop insight into the function of their presenting problem without shame or judgement, allowing them to find alternative ways to get their needs met. I believe in taking a multidimensional approach to treatment & work collaboratively with allied professionals to ensure each patient is getting the most comprehensive care possible. I whole heartedly believe recovery from whatever you are struggling with is possible & aim to impart that hope to my clients. My approach is warm, open & non-judgmental. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/melissa-mason-fishkill-ny/789530
Therapy for Young Adults in NY Young adulthood and being a college student is the time in our life with the most changes in comparison to our entire lifespan. It is when we are trying to establish ourselves as individuals, separate from our families, and acclimate to college life and plan our futures. We are faced with endless opportunities and the freedom may feel scary. Some college students have feelings of anxiety and depression due to the level of independence and feeling a lack of direction. As a therapist in Westchester, I help young adults struggling with: -finding meaningful friendships -finding meaningful romantic relationships -adapting to a college environment -adjustment to graduating college -lack a sense of direction -lack a sense of identity -family conflicts -poor coping mechanisms -ambivalence about career choices -difficulty making decisions -generalized anxiety disorder -social anxiety disorder -obsessive compulsive disorder -phobias -panic attacks -fear of vomiting -perfectionistic thinking patterns -depression -low self-esteem Our work together can help you feel grounded during a time of important decision making and change. Schedule a consultation with me today so we can get to know each other and see if we're a good fit for therapy.
ADHD is more than just "having difficulty focusing," and no, not "everyone has a little bit of ADHD" as many people claim nowadays. The impact of ADHD is pervasive and can keep you from reaching your goals, connecting with others, maintaining a routine despite knowing that it would be helpful, and constantly "masking" for fear that you will not be accepted as you are. Life administrative tasks feel daunting and get postponed repeatedly, and the negative self-talk that ensues as a result takes a further toll and increases avoidance. I can help you understand the brain science of ADHD, incorporate aspects of mindfulness, somatic work, and other modalities to overcome these challenges, and regain your mental energy. You'll learn to work with your neurodivergence, NOT against it. I work from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, lens and am mindful about how culture, immigration journeys and systemic racism play a role in how someone compensates for their ADHD.
My practice specialty is clinical psychology and neuropsychology. I perform ADD/ADHD diagnostic assessment and treatment, as well as treatment for anxiety, depression, traumatic brain injury and stress-related issues. I perform neuropsychological testing, Quantitative EEG (brain mapping) and Neurofeedback therapy.
You may be a deep thinker/artist type who goes really deep into what matters to you. Maybe you struggle with self acceptance. You might be seeking a sense of purpose. What if you could feel better about yourself? What if your anxiety or depression started to lift and you felt some relief? What if you felt connected to your creativity and/or your sense of purpose? Imagine if you had someone in your corner to really hear your story and provide support. I provide a safe space to explore what matters to you. I routinely hear from clients that therapy with me has been instrumental in helping them to heal and start feeling like themselves again. I welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your situation. I offer free 15 minute consultations. Send me a text or an email to set something up. I look forward to meeting you!
The beauty of therapy is its ability to provide a safe space, unbiased, listening ears, and dedicated time to focus on you. I believe the therapeutic relationship is central. It creates the foundation necessary to promote mental and emotional growth and well-being. Therefore, each session we will work to build an alliance, which will become instrumental for making progress and attaining your identified goals. Using an integrative approach will allow me to tailor our time together to best meet your needs. I will highlight your strengths and provide you with the tools necessary to strengthen the areas you wish to improve. In addition to others, I have a special interest in working with those invested in holistic health, more specifically a mind/body connection. I am here to support, guide, and encourage you throughout this journey, as you take control. Reaching out takes courage; it is the first step in the direction of growth and positive changes. I look forward to creating a space where listening is focal, empathy is provided, improvements are acknowledged, goals are accomplished, and individuality is celebrated. Come as you are!
