I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with over 12 years of experience. I provide an atmosphere of trust and comfort where clients feel at ease. My style of therapy is engaging, warm and goal-oriented. Others have described me as authentic, genuine, non-judgmental and empathic. I work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, school/work related challenges, family conflict, relationship issues, life transition issues and parenting difficulties. I believe there is no “one size fits all” form of treatment. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them find the necessary tools to grow, develop, and achieve their goals. I am skilled in a variety of interventions including the evidenced based approaches of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I draw from these approaches, depending on my client’s goals and what I deem will be most effective. I received my Masters in Clinical Counseling at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I practiced and trained in Chicago for 9 years before moving to Indiana. Prior to starting my private practice, I worked in various settings including psychiatric hospitals, partial hospitalization programming, intensive outpatient programming, within a group practice and a community mental health center.
Coming to therapy can be nerve wracking, my goal as your counselor is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment to support you in your therapy goals. I have a passion for working with clients of diverse backgrounds such as sexual, gender, and ethnic minorities. I have experience working with various mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. I have worked with clients within the LGBTQ+ and minority communities for over five years. As a counselor that identifies with multiple minority identities, I understand the importance of finding a counselor that understands your world experiences and lens. I take an eclectic approach to help support unique client needs. I received my master’s degree in counseling psychology at Ball State University with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy to help process emotions. I emphasize open communication, setting healthy boundaries, and confidence building. I am both trauma-informed and culturally informed. I find the most crucial part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. During sessions, I would describe my style as “chill,” supportive, while professional. Humor and light-heartedness, when appropriate, can be therapeutic and beneficial. If this sounds like a style that meets your needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to learn more information. I look forward to connecting with you!

Hi! I’m Christy. I’m the owner and a therapist at Journey to Joy Counseling. I believe that many people reach a point in their lives where they feel overwhelmed by life. This could be triggered by the loss of a job, a struggling marriage, family issues, or a personal battle. It can be hard to reach out for help. Sometimes it may feel easier just to withdraw or isolate, mask, or even ignore the problem. I’ve learned that while these attempts to cope may help temporarily, they don’t make the problems go away. The best thing we can do for ourselves is to seek help. People often ask me “How can counseling help?” I’ve learned from my own personal experience with therapy that counseling provides a safe space, a neutral party to bounce things off of, and a place to process things you may not realize you need to address. I believe that it is important to meet people where they are emotionally. No matter where you are on your journey, you need to be able to evaluate how you got to this point, and where you want to go from here. It’s important for me to understand the goals you have for your life and your personal growth. I want to offer you a neutral support system, a trusting and collaborative relationship, and my knowledge, experience, and training in order to help you have the best therapy experience.

I’m here to help you develop coping strategies, manage stress, and gain clarity on what’s most important to you. I am trained in EMDR, DBT, and CBT. I like to use somatic interventions to help clients reprocess traumatic memories, explore their inner emotional landscape and work through beliefs that can become stuck points in traditional talk therapy. Presence and accompaniment matter. Relationships transform. We can more easily connect to our true self and touch emotional distress in the presence of another's settled nervous system. Neurobiology and mindfulness science has proven that the human brain can be distraught while simultaneously observing the self with compassion. The ability to be both experiencing and holding the experience is the key to maintaining calm when facing challenges. Whether you feel overwhelmed, stuck, anxiety, anger, depression, or find yourself reacting in ways that leave you feeling alone and hurt, we can come to be with all of it with gentle awareness and respect. Utilizing attuned presence and offering stabilizing mind-body approaches, I support clients in restoring and strengthening connection with themselves and the world around them. It is in the warmth of healthy relationship that we offer our brains the ability to rewire. Our journey will allow space for joy, for pain, for greater self awareness and compassion. Restoring balance, re-engaging with connection, and igniting wisdom through awareness is possible. Please visit my website to schedule your free, 15 minute initial consultation. I look forward to meeting and walking alongside you.
