College can be a very difficult time for us. We may face some changes and also notice new expectations for ourselves during these transitional moments. It is highly likely to feel confused at times and unsure of where we see ourselves next. I want to help you become the best version of yourself so that you are better suited for making these decisions and feel comfortable with them! My Supervisor is Bill Coffey, License number: CW014371

I am a licensed clinical social worker with nearly a decade of experience as a therapist. I specialize in treatment of complex trauma and PTSD, with Level I and Level II EMDR training. Several years ago I also completed an advanced EMDR training in somatic reprocessing, and I use awareness of the mind/body connection in much of my therapeutic treatment. Additionally, I have a great deal of experience and training in DBT and CBT, as well as trauma-focused play interventions for children. I also use these interventions to work with anxiety, mood disorders, and OCD, and have experience treating PANS and PANDAS. I have a particular passion for working with the LGBTA+ population, and offer a focus on the traumatic nature of oppression in my work. I can help transgender clients navigate medical and social transition, as well as write surgery letters. Two years ago I completed certification through the International Transgender Certification Association. I provide a warm and inviting environment where no one is judged, and everyone is free to heal and explore themselves in their own time.

Deciding to make the decision to go to therapy isn't always easy. It often can be difficult to know where to start. I can understand this. If you are someone who has been feeling lost, stuck, anxious, or depressed- you're in the right place. Maybe you have felt all of the above? Maybe you're someone looking for better tools to manage stress, understand your emotions or communicate with others. A typical session is based on your treatment plan. Sessions are meant to be a non-judgmental space where you are free to come as you. A place where you feel seen, heard, and valued. As a licensed professional counselor, I work with individuals of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma. I specialize in treating folks with trauma using EMDR. I also have 3 years of experience treating alcohol and substance abuse disorders. Prior to my work as a therapist, I worked in community mental health for 5 years. Regardless of what you are going through or what you have been through. I understand the thought of asking yourself" what do I do next?" Asking for help is a small act of courage. I invite you to reach out (phone or email) and connect to see if we might be a good fit.

Embarking on a journey towards mental well-being takes both vulnerability and courage. Therapy is a transformative space where vulnerability turns into strength, and courage takes the helm of your healing journey. As your collaborative partner, I would be honored to walk alongside you and support you as you navigate life's challenges and discover the strength within you. About Me: I am a therapist rooted in the foundational principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), meaning I focus on the intertwining of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My approach to therapy is enriched by a versatile blend of various modalities, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I also utilize skill-building modalities, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist clients in working towards their goals in therapy. My approach is individualized to support the specific needs of each client. During our time together, it is my hope that you feel empowered to explore, express, and grow, that you feel supported to show up authentically as yourself. Specialization: I bring a wealth of experience supporting clients on identity formation/exploration, anxiety, depression, body image, postpartum issues, ADHD, Autism, and those who are a part of the foster care/adoption community. I have extensive experience working with adolescent and young adult clients. While I do not work with couples, I have worked extensively with individuals who are hoping to improve their relationships with others by enhancing interpersonal communication skills such as conflict resolution and assertive communication. I have been able to assist clients with navigating new relationships and relationship changes (such as divorce or separation), processing infidelity, and navigating child/caregiver and adult child/parent relationships. I will often address relational issues through an attachment lens, and process the impact that attachment styles have on one’s interactions and behaviors in relationships. I am also passionate about supporting individuals living with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Having walked a similar path, I deeply understand the intricacies of such experiences. I bring not only professional expertise but also a deep well of empathy. Together, we will navigate the intricacies of your struggles with compassion and understanding. Flexibility: I meet with clients both in-person at our West Chester office and virtually via telehealth, My commitment to your well-being and growth remains, regardless of the medium. The stories we believe about ourselves are essential, and yet, they are stories we are often unaware of. You may have decided to seek treatment because you (or someone in your life) noticed something about you or how you live in the world that has been difficult, like feeling disappointed in yourself or others, and this may have impacted things like your schoolwork or your relationships. Whatever the difficulties are, these are themes in your story -- we would work together to make sense of them, and see what we can do about them. The possibilities may include things like psychotherapy (talk therapy) or medications, both of which are treatment options I offer in my psychiatry practice. Because I think it is essential to treat you as a whole person, I am only accepting new patients who are interested in psychotherapy (typically at least weekly), either with me in my practice, or with a therapist with whom I have a working relationship. As a physician (medical doctor) specialized in psychiatry, I draw on years of dedicated training for your treatment; qualifying as a psychiatrist entails, after completion of a bachelor's degree, eight years of full-time medical education, including six years of supervised, direct patient care in a variety of treatment settings. To learn more about my practice or to request a phone call to discuss a consultation visit, please visit my practice website, www.terrafirmapsychiatry.com.

I know that making the decision to seek help can bring up difficult feelings, which is why as a therapist I seek to create an honest, authentic, and supportive relationship with my clients. By creating a sense of safety with one another we can work together to address your most immediate concerns, while simultaneously using our time as an opportunity to develop a deeper relationship with yourself and your experiences. I practice from an Existential-Integrative perspective, incorporating elements from psychodynamic, interpersonal and experiential techniques in my work with clients. This approach extends beyond your symptoms and into an exploration of what it means for you to live a fulfilling life, as well as what may be holding you back. Wellness is experienced differently by everyone and together we can explore what it means for you to live well and begin the process of working towards that together. I have experience working with those struggling with experiences of depression, anxiety, and interpersonal concerns.
